A City by the Sea, Where Calm Meets Culture

This is where an adventure begins: on Lomé beach, tucked next to palm trees, is a café, and beyond that, a beach bar grill. The shore is lined with golden sand and extends to palm trees and coffee. Upon rising above a quiet sea, one can pick a drink and enjoy silence, and of either little fisherman nets or just pure silence.

As the day winds down, the previously calm beach transforms into a colorful, lively atmosphere. The atmosphere leaps alive during the beach ball skills, treating the entire beach with the relaxing, fun-filled Lomé experience, absolutely unbelievable.

Markets, The Actual Heart of Lomé

The Grand Marché, like the rest of the city, is an explosion of colors and sounds, absolutely a must-visit when visiting Lomé. The colorful draped skirts, artwork, and even spices are mesmerized to be sold in the market with utterly beautiful handcrafted jewels and carvings.

Nana Benz is the amazing woman who runs this market. They are greatly admired for their business savvy, passionate about textiles, and celebrate the retention of their archaic culture. They pay tribute to all tourists, full of joy as they continue to do to date.

For nature lovers, Kpalimé is a good option. It is a lovely village located a few hours away from Lomé, in the center of a hilly and wooded area near a waterfall. A perfect weekend escape from the city.

Culture, Art, and Music... in Abundance.

In addition to the markets and the beach, Lomé has a vibrant history of music and fine arts. The Togolese National Museum is filled with the nation’s primary collection of cultural artifacts. It contains a collection of carved wood with traditional woven crafts, drums, and masks that beautifully illustrate the heritage of the land and its people.

As dusk approaches, a new and different magic falls on the city.  Pubs and beach bars burst with Afrobeat, highlife, and local drums, washing the city in sound. Spirited rhythms fill the air, and dancers become the night. The city becomes alive with rhythms that ignite the spirit, warmly inviting all to sway and move.

Witnessing a dance recital with such tremendous passion is a unique experience for a select few. To this moment…the dance, with its delightful melodies, remains vivid in one’s imagination.
